The majority of CCGs in London offer one cycle of treatment.
In 2013, FF reported 7 CCGs providing 3 cycles of treatment in line with NICE guidance. A closer look at their policies in 2014 however revealed that they actually provide ‘three embryo transfers in total’ – meaning that in their eyes a cycle includes one fresh embryo and two frozen embryos. This is not in line with NICE’s definition of a full cycle which should include the transfer of a fresh embryo and all viable frozen embryos. As a consequence we have now listed them as providing one cycle of treatment to avoid confusion.
The CCGs described above are:
- Barking & Dagenham CCG
- City and Hackney CCG
- Havering CCG
- Newham CCG
- Redbridge CCG
- Tower Hamlets CCG
- Waltham Forest CCG
Camden CCG should be singled out for special commendation since they alone in the London region fund 3 cycles of IVF, including up to 3 frozen transfers.
With respect to age criteria, most use 23-39 as their cut off, however 2 CCGs do offer 1 cycle of IVF to couples where the female partner is aged between 40-42 (providing they meet NICE’s criteria).
